Developing Sustainable and Profitable Stores
NACS recently held an on-line presentation on what convenience retailers need to know about operating environmentally friendly, sustainable stores as well as maintaining profitability. There were four presentations made by some of America’s biggest retailers, supply chain solutions and media commentators. A copy of the presentation is available below. There were many issues discussed with the primary message being that through consultation with retail team members at both site and management level, consumers and suppliers a genuinely green operation is achievable. Consumers are happy to pay a premium for it so long as it is convenient!
Guest Presenters:
Don Longo Editor in Chief, Convenience Store News
Jay Ricker President, Ricker Oil
Scott E. Hartman President & CEO, Rutter’s Farm Stores
Stuart Clark SR. Vice President, Sales, Grocery Supply Chain Solutions, McLane

This survey was completed by retailers. Scott Hartman pointed out that is a consumer sample was asked this question the responses would probably be heavier in the recycling services and sustainable materials and packaging areas. This would however grow with a retailer focus on educating shoppers etc.
