The Peter Jowett Scholarship and Industry Awards event had a brilliant turn out this year with the highest number of members ever turning up to watch 6 excellent presentations for the Peter Jowett Scholarship in the afternoon session.

Members voted Matt de Pater from Mondelez (Cadbury) as the best supplier and Tiffany Wilks from BP Oil as the best retailer. These two professionals will be jet setting over to Atlanta to represent New Zealand in the Global Competition at the NACS Show between 11th – 16th October.

Geoff Bryan our excellent MC hosted a wonderful evening which aimed to reward those companies and individuals who have showed excellence in the convenience industry. This year there were a couple of new awards and some of the processes were changed.

The winner for New Product Development for 2012 was The Wrigley Company ECLIPSE Chewy Mints. The retailer committee based that on overall delivery, innovation and excellent execution.

The retailer committee also discussed the Best Key Account manager for 2013 based on nominations provided by the retailers. There were three shortlisted being Stephen Fielder from Coca-Cola, Richard Kirby from Twin Agencies and Andrew Poore from Goodman Fielder. The winner was Stephen Fielder for being responsive, personable, and going the extra mile within his company for the mutual benefit of the relationship.

The supplier committee were in agreement that the Best Category Manager for 2013 is Briony Newton from Z Energy. Briony delivers on commitments & has a keen willingness to work with suppliers to deliver shopper centric solutions. She strives to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes for both the supplier and Z Energy. Briony is happy to trial new initiatives and supports NPD launches. Her key strength is her warm and constructive style and suppliers appreciate her efficient and timely communication.

The company awards were as follows:
Best Retailer for Store Compliance – BP Oil
Best Direct Infield Supplier - Frucor Beverages
Best Indirect Infield Supplier - Imperial Tobacco
Best Head Office Large Supplier - Frucor Beverages
Best Head Office Small to Medium Supplier - Twin Agencies

Our new Supreme Supplier award for the supplier who provided outstanding service across the convenience stores and the head offices went to Frucor Beverages
The evening wrapped up with John Anderson who told us his inspiring and amazing story of Contiki Holidays.
